Head Start Works!
Multiple studies have shown that children who have attended a Head Start program for at least one year are more successful in many areas during the first years of elementary school than children who haven’t had a Head Start experience.
According to the Head Start Impact Study Final Report, there is strong evidence that, when compared to children who have never experienced Head Start, children who have attended Head Start:
• Demonstrate better skills in language and literacy development
• Have more emerging literacy skills
• Use a more advanced vocabulary
• Show strong evidence of less hyperactive behavior and fewer overall problem behaviors
• Have better social skills and positive approaches to learning
• Exhibit a closer relationship with their parents
