New Partnership Formed with Metro High School
HACAP’s Statewide Weatherization Training Program is partnering with Metro High School and Home Depot in the Green Jobs Youth Pilot Program. The main goal of the program is to train six graduating seniors in basic carpentry, weatherization and employment skills in a summer youth program. The program is set to begin on June 6, 2011.
The youth training program will provide one month of training related to current market demand, six weeks of job experience, and the goal of connecting youth that complete the program with regular employment. The focus will be on “Green Jobs”: Jobs that provide a living wage and, in some manner, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.
The training will cover basic carpentry skills needed for weatherization projects, the weatherization training curriculum utilized by the Statewide Weatherization Program, a 10-hour OSHA certification, the Lead Safe Renovator (LSR) certification, and basic human relations skills commonly used in the workplace.
We at HACAP are very excited about this partnership with Metro High School and see this as the start of a long-lasting community relationship.
