2-1-1 Partners with VITA and AARP for Another Success
The United Way 2-1-1 Call Center, housed at HACAP's Corporate Office, partnered with AARP and VITA once again this year to schedule appointments for free tax preparation services. Thanks to the efforts of these groups, a substantial amount of money was brought back into our communities. The results speak for themselves:
United Way 2-1-1 scheduled tax appointments for the following partners who provided free tax preparation services:
- Linn County AARP
- Linn County VITA
- ISU Extension in Iowa County
- Black Hawk County VITA
- Washington County VITA
- Jones County RSVP
Statistics
- Linn County AARP, Linn County VITA, Black Hawk County VITA, Washington County VITA and Jones County RSVP completed 4,161 returns. ISU Extension in Iowa County was a mail-in site this year, they completed 19 tax returns. (They sent tax information from their clients to Des Moines where the returns were completed and mailed back to the client for signature and submission to the IRS.) A total of 4,180 returns were completed.
- Federal returns from these tax payers totaled $5,171,575.
- 1,233 of these tax payers were eligible for EITC for a total EITC return of $1,632,658.
