The 2007 HACAP Freedom from Hunger Food Drive raised over 2200 lbs. of food. Top donors were the Anamosa Head Start location and Old Main in Washington County.
The 5th Annual Freedom from Hunger Food Drive is part of a broader effort sponsored by Bank Iowa, Linn County Supervisors Witwer Trust, and others to benefit area food assistance programs during the summer months when demand for food assistance peaks, but supplies dwindle. Other partners include the Freedom Festival, the Cedar Rapids Kernels Baseball Club, Linn County Continuum of Care (which focuses on homelessness and hunger) the United Way of East Central Iowa and area Veterans. Last year partner agencies and local companies collected over 66,000 pounds of food for area food assistance programs. This year’s totals will be in soon.
