Energy Efficiency Classes are a part of HACAP’s Assessment and Resolution Energy Counseling Program. The classes offer HACAP recipients education on reducing energy usage thereby cutting costs as well as assessment and referral to the Low-income Home Energy Assistance Program (LiHEAP)
Each class, led by a HACAP Energy Counselor, involves a presentation on energy efficiency. The presentation includes information on the overall energy use of a typical household and recommendations regarding heating and cooling, energy efficient lighting, water heating, refrigeration, and a list of top ten ways to save energy and money.
Participants in the classes are provided with Energy Efficiency Kits which include compact-florescent light-bulbs, high efficiency shower heads, faucet aerators, etc. Qualifying households are eligible for a one time monetary award to assist with energy costs. Several of the hour long classes are held at various locations in the HACAP area each month. HACAP Energy Efficiency Classes are sponsored by Alliant Energy-IPL and Mid American Energy.
