Cedar Rapids Mayor Kay Halloran presented HACAP a $409,043 Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) for FY 2007 on July 17th at HACAP’s Inn Circle location in Cedar Rapids. Deputy Executive Director Mitch Finn accepted the grant on behalf of CEO Jane Drapeaux. The majority of the grant will be used to replace windows at the Inn Circle Location at 5560 6th Street SW. “The idea is to make Inn Circle feel more like home and less like a hotel”. The new windows will also create energy savings. Much needed repairs to the Inn Circle roof will also become a reality. The remainder of the grant will be utilized to provide housing and mortgage counseling to HACAP recipient families.
Guests in attendance included: Jane Benning, Assisted Housing Manager for the City of Cedar Rapids; Beth Freeman representing Senator Tom Harkin; Mary Day representing Senator Charles Grassley; Kristine Chiafos representing Representative Dave Loebsack; and Bruce Ray representing the Des Moines Field Office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Other area agencies receiving CDGB grants are: The Boys & Girls Club, Waypoint Services, Goodwill Industries, Mission of Hope Shelter, Community Health Free Clinic, Taylor Area Neighborhood Association, Aging Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Wellington Heights Neighborhood Association, Ecumenical Community Center Foundation, and the Heritage Area Agency on Aging.
