The Iowa Utilities Board has released account numbers through November 2007.
The linear amount of revenue of past due energy assistance accounts at the end of November stood at near $6,000,000; up nearly 2 million dollars from the same time in 2002.
Those receiving energy assistance are not the only ones finding their accounts past due. The linear amount of revenue of past due general residential accounts at the end of November stood at near $27,000,000; up nearly 7 million dollars from the same time in 2002.
The linear number of energy assistance accounts that have been written off at the end of November stood at 1200; up nearly 700 from five years ago.
A state total of 236,825 accounts are currently past due. According to the report this is the largest monthly total ever reported, signifying that the high cost of energy is no longer an issue that affects only “low income” households.
