Program Spotlight on United Way 2-1-1

What is United Way 2-1-1, and how does this program assist HACAP clients?

United Way 2-1-1 is a free, confidential service that gives referrals to individuals and families to community resources and the services they need, 24-hours a days, seven days a week.   When you call 2-1-1, an Information and Referral Specialist will listen to your situation, access our database of health and human service providers and then give you information about the most appropriate community services.  United Way 2-1-1 is a collaborative project with United Way of East Central Iowa, HACAP, Foundation 2, and Heritage Agency on Aging.  HACAP answers calls Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm; and Foundation 2 answers calls on week nights, weekends, and holidays.  We collaborate with various community projects such as 2-1-1 is the emergency call center for FPL (Duane Arnold Nuclear Plant) and EMA offices in Linn, Black Hawk, and Cedar counties.

The 2-1-1 call center has been busy scheduling tax appointments for AARP in Linn and Jones Counties, and VITA in Linn, Black Hawk, and Iowa Counties.  They started making these appointments at the end of January and will continue through April 15th.  They are also currently scheduling LiHEAP and Head Start appointments.
