The Des Moines Regester's Embrace Iowa program takes place annually and provides a benefit for up to $500 for emergency relief (awarded Dec. 15th -- Jan. 15th) Criteria for relief is as follows:
- Emergency/Crisis will be considered first
- Elderly/disabled persons experiencing and emergency
- Other families experiencing an emergency
Types of emergencies considered:
- Utilities shutoff
- Health emergency
- Loss of employment
- Child Care for those not covered under the Crisis Child Care Program
Embrace Iowa can also be utilized to provide a more stable living environment. Examples include:
- Back utility bills (under moratorium protection)
- Appliance repair
- Transportation costs for work/school
- Child Care for work/school
