On October 1, 2009, the WIC Program rolled out a new food package. The new food package aligns with the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and infant feeding practice guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Some changes include the addition of a cash value voucher that allows the purchase of fresh or frozen fruits or vegetables and whole grain options including bread, corn tortillas, or brown rice.
