Disaster Declaration: Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Funds

UPDATE: Gov. Terry Branstad has announced that he is extending the proclamation of disaster emergency for counties impacted by flooding in September. Today’s extension will make the Iowa Individuals Assistance Program available until Dec. 7, 2016, for eligible residents in the following counties in the HACAP service area: Linn, Jones, and Benton.

On September 23, 2016 Governor Branstad issued a proclamation of disaster emergency in response to flooding. Two of the counties served by HACAP were included in the proclamation. Those counties are Benton and Linn.

The governor’s declaration program provides assistance of up to $5,000 for uninsured or underinsured households with incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level, or a maximum annual income of $40, 320 for a family of three.Grants are available for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and, for the expense of temporary housing. Original receipts are required for those seeking reimbursement for actual expenses related to flood recovery. Potential applicants living in Benton County or Linn County have until November 7, 2016 to complete an application. 

To apply for assistance, please complete, sign, and date the Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance application AND the HACAP Disaster Assistance Basic Assistance Form.

You must also include the following information with your application:
  • Proof of income (copy of a pay-stub, W-2, income tax, etc.)
  • Copies of photo IDs of anyone 18 years or older living in the home
  • Proof of residence (e.g. utility bill)
  • Statement from insurance company of coverage (if applicable)
If you are applying for car repairs, you must also include:
  • Copy of vehicle registration
  • Copy of liability insurance card

Once your application is received, you will receive notice of approval or denial for disaster assistance funds.
