Whenever an urgent need arises, be one of the first ones to know! We often are in need of volunteers at the last minute or who are on call. 
 
 
 

Volunteer Opportunities

Food Reservoir: Help provide our neighbors facing food insecurity get reliable access to enough food via our food bank warehouse located in Hiawatha, IA. Every year, our facility is a storehouse for millions of pounds of food that go in and out our doors and end up in the community through food pantries, non-profit organizations, churches, and school-based programs. Volunteer play a major role in getting food out to those who need it as quickly as we can to better feed Eastern Iowans. Projects include: Packing/Sorting Food Donations, Mobile Food Pantry, Food Pantry Order Prep, Backpack Program Packing/Prep (school year only)
 

Senior Dining: Offer hot meals to those in need who may not be able to make it out of their homes. HACAP operates two seperate dining sites, our 4th Street Diner, located in Vinton, IA and the Belle Plaine Senior Dining Center located in Belle Plaine, IA. Menus will be updated on the senior dining page as new ones come out monthly. Projects include: Helping with food prep and serving and delivering meals to homes.

Washington County Food Pantry: Please contact RenElla, Washington County Operations Manager, at rcrawford@hacap.org or call the pantry at 319-653-7275 to let her know your availability. Projects include: Grocery Store Pick-Ups and Sorting Donated Food

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program: Designed to help low-income families meet the cost of home heating. It is not intended to pay your household's total energy costs, but to pay a portion of residential heating costs for eligible households. In most cases, benefits will be in the form of a credit applied to your utility company heating bill. Projects include: Call Center Attendent (October - April)
 
Head Start: As the nation’s leading federally funded early learning program, Head Start serves children and families in every state and congressional district in the country with a consistently high level of quality. Head Start provides comprehensive early childhood education for children ages Birth-5. The program incorporates health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and families and is completely FREE. Please note that our Head Start volunteer positions will require additional paperwork, including a background check form. Projects include: Head Start Classroom Reader, Head Start Classroom Assistant, Head Start Administrative
