Five HACAP Head Start Classrooms Recognized as EC-PBIS Model Classrooms

May 27, 2025 - HACAP is proud to announce that five outstanding Head Start classrooms have been officially designated as model EC-PBIS classrooms for their exemplary implementation of Early Childhood Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (EC-PBIS) practices. HACAP now holds the first infant toddler recognized classroom in the state.

Congratulations to the following staff and their classrooms for achieving this distinction:

  • Kathryn Rippe
  • Donna Leonard
  • Amanda Hennessey
  • Tera Untrauer
  • April Grabau
These educators have demonstrated a high level of fidelity in implementing the EC-PBIS framework, earning each classroom a certificate of designation. As part of the recognition, each classroom also received a copy of the Unpacking the Pyramid Model book to continue building on their success.

In recognition of their achievement, these classrooms will be featured on a statewide map on the CCR&R website as model EC-PBIS classrooms. This visibility will allow other early childhood programs to observe best practices in action and learn how EC-PBIS supports a positive learning environment.

What is EC-PBIS?
The Early Childhood Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (EC-PBIS) Preschool 2023 series trains educators in using the Pyramid Model, a research-based framework designed to foster social-emotional development and prevent challenging behavior in young children, particularly in classroom settings for ages 3–5. Through proactive, evidence-based strategies, EC-PBIS empowers teachers to create nurturing and supportive learning environments where every child can thrive.

We commend Kathryn, Donna, Amanda, Tera, and April for their dedication to quality early childhood education and their leadership in implementing practices that truly make a difference in children's lives.
