About I-Smile
I-Smile connects children and pregnant women living in Iowa with dental, medical, and community resources for a lifetime of health and wellness. HACAP provides these services in conjunction with Johnson County Public Health. For more informaiton, please visit Iowa Health and Human Services.
I-Smile Dental Home Initiative
The purpose of the program is to ensure children have a dental home. Our dental staff aids families in finding a dental provider. The program serves children from 0 to 21 years of age, and pregnant women. Services provided to WIC clients, Head Start children, and at community events. Examinations by a registered dental hygienist may include:
- Dental screening
- Oral hygiene instruction
- Fluoride varnish application
- Referral to local dentists for treatment
- Gap filling preventive dental treatment
- Dental care coordination
I-Smile @ School
I-Smile @ School is a sealant-based program that HACAP dental staff offers to schools with a 40% or greater free and reduced lunch rate. For the 2024-2025 school year we will be serving:

During services Registered Dental Hygienists will provide screenings, oral hygiene instruction, dental nutritional education, fluoride & sealants, to students at no charge to them or their families.
Dental Care Coordination
HACAP’s oral health staff assists families in obtaining a dental provider. Please call 319-329-5970 Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Services provided include:
- Determination of barriers to dental care
- Referral to a dentist
- Review of family financial resources
- Assistance in applying for Medicaid, Hawk-i, Title X and Title V programs
- Follow-up with families to ensure dental visits are kept
